Job Description



AECOM is seeking a Director of State & Local Government Relations to join our Government Relations team.

This position will offer flexibility for hybrid work schedules to include both in-office presence and telecommute/virtual work, to be based in the Washington DC area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage AECOM’s state and local government affairs efforts across the United States.
  • Coordinate with U.S. regions to align strategic growth goals with the company’s geopolitical efforts. Serve as the connection point among AECOM leadership for state & local government affairs activity.
  • Drive business growth in AECOM’s top states and metro areas through sustained engagement with elected and appointed officials.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with governors, staff and state agencies in key states.
  • Support the development of AECOM leadership team’s relationships and engagement with local elected officials in key metro areas.
  • Drive cross-business line coordination of state and local government affairs to ensure a coherent, strategic message is delivered consistently to policymakers.
  • Engage regularly with regional executives, strategy and growth leads and regional business line leaders to manage the state and local GR plans and strategy and align resources to support.
  • Partner with internal advocate managers to manage AECOM’s local advocates ensuring accountability for each advocate and collaborate across the region to deliver the best ROI from our advocate teams.
  • Understand the geopolitical situation in each major state and major metro area, including key relationships, policymaker priorities, and potential risks to the business.
  • Collaborate with metro leadership in major market areas to align GR priorities and resource needs.
  • Support the regional executives with resourcing decisions for geopolitical efforts and GR-adjacent activities such as conferences, sponsorships, and contributions.
  • Focus on largest states and Metro+ cities to grow business but also look for organic business opportunities in places where AECOM’s footprint is smaller or non-existent.
  • Manage AECOM participation in state and local organizations
  • Engage directly on major pursuits and projects at the state and local level.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS plus at least 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including at least 4 years of leadership experience
  • Previous experience with state or local government relations or affairs
  • Ability to travel, approximately 20%

Preferred

Qualifications

:

  • Experience working within a similarly large, complex organization
  • Experience managing government affairs in multiple US states or a US region
  • Background in transportation and infrastructure policy
