Job Description

The FIVCO Area Development District (ADD) is a regional planning and development organization serving Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup, and Lawrence counties in northeastern Kentucky. Our mission is to foster community and economic growth, support local governments, and provide vital services to individuals and families across the region.

FIVCO offers internship opportunities for college students interested in gaining hands-on experience in public service, planning, social services, and administration. Internships provide exposure to regional projects, grant administration, and community engagement while working alongside professional staff.

Internship Opportunities:

Community & Economic Development Internship:

  • Focus on community planning, economic development, and grant research.
  • Support projects, outreach, and regional development initiatives.
  • Ideal for students in Public Administration, Planning, Political Science, or Economics.

Social Services Internship:

  • Support programs for seniors, families, and community members in need.
  • Gain experience in case management, program administration, and service delivery.
  • Ideal for students in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or Sociology.

Waiver Services Internship:

  • Work with individuals who qualify for Medicaid waiver services, including seniors, people with disabilities, and those needing in-home or community-based care.
  • Gain experience in case management, service planning, and advocacy.
  • Ideal for students in Social Work, Human Services, Special Education, or Psychology.

Administrative & Financial Internship:

  • Assist with office operations, financial tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Learn nonprofit and government administrative processes.
  • Ideal for students in Business Administration, Accounting, or Public Administration.

General Details:

  • Location: FIVCO Area Development District Office, Grayson, KY.
  • Format: Flexible scheduling; part-time during academic terms (10–20 hours/week).
  • Compensation: Internship may be unpaid or for academic credit (dependent on program requirements).
  • Eligibility: Open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in relevant programs.

About FIVCO Area Development District:

This organization shall be known as the FIVCO Area Development District, a local agency created under the Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS Chapter, 147A), with its purpose being to promote, develop and protect the economy, health, education, and general welfare and to implement projects in accordance with KRS 147A for the people of Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup and Lawrence Counties in Northeastern Kentucky, and to further act in conjunction with adjoining Area Development Districts to implement programs of benefit to the Northeastern Kentucky area. The FIVCO Area Development District was founded in 1968 and proudly serves its five-county region in many different capacities. The Board of Directors consists of 25 members from the five-county region. The purpose of the ADD is to assist in these areas: • Homecare • Regional Transportation • Revolving Loan Funds • Tourism & Recreation • Aging & Disability Services
